Holiday Stress Relief for the Shy and Sensitive Introverts

Are you a shy, sensitive introvert? Do you get overwhelmed easily by noise, light, busy activities, crowded places, trying new things or meeting new people? Are you easily affected by other people’s words, emotions and/or energies? If so, chances are, holidays are stressful and overwhelming for you. With MORE people, things and activities to deal with, it’s very easy to get stress and sensory overload. Can you relate?

Let me tell you a first-hand experience I had last week.

It was the day after the red-carpet premiere of The Keeper of the Keys movie in which I costar with Jack Canfield, Marci Shimoff and John Gray. I had a great time getting all dressed up (the hair and makeup took 2 hours) for the red carpet and hanging out with my fabulous costars. It was surreal to watch myself on the silver screen. The movie was AMAZING!! We partied till past midnight (which was 3 AM Eastern time) on the premiere night. I was exhausted, but I had to get up early that morning for another hair and makeup session for my photo shoot. I hadn’t drank coffee for a while, but, I asked for one that morning before heading down for the photo shoot.

Note to self: Never schedule a photo shoot the morning after a major party!

The photo shoot went well. I tried my best to smile despite my fatigue. It was a LOT of walking, though, in downtown Las Vegas, in my super high heels, which I totally didn’t expect. After an hour of walking around, my feet were killing me and I just wanted to crawl back to bed.

That’s when my dear hubby called, saying he and our kids were having lunch near the hotel, asking me if I were going to join them. I asked him to bring me some food and iced tea instead. I really needed a break. When he got back, he was complaining that I didn’t answer his text about what kind of tea I wanted. He questioned why I wouldn’t answer my phone “all morning” or text him back when I “had a break during the photo shoot.” Then he was rushing me to get ready to go to Red Rock Canyon.

Are you kidding me?!! I was really irritated, to say the least. First of all, I told him, I didn’t “have a break” during the photo shoot. We were walking and taking pictures the whole time. And, my phone was on mute, in my purse, which the photographer was carrying for me. Second of all, the entire movie VIP luncheon, premiere night and the photo shoot, even though fun, were official business functions. I was busy working, for God’s sake!

It wasn’t a pretty picture… I was hungry, tired and really cranky. It took great constraint on my part to NOT have a meltdown in front of my kids. On our way to the Red Rock Canyon, you could clearly feel the tension in the air.

After eating some food and meditating to center myself, I felt MUCH better. The gorgeous scenery and fresh air at the Red Rock Canyon uplifted my spirit. We were amazed by the peace and quiet in that magnificent open space. I breathed a sigh of relief, as I took in the beauty all around me, and every cell in my body relaxed. Before long, I was happy playing with my family and snapping tons of pictures (you know how much I love photography). Well, nature proved to be just what I needed to recharge and center myself.

It was a big lesson for me. Being a shy and sensitive introvert, I’m usually quite mindful of managing my energy – physical, mental and emotional energies. I can strike a pose and enjoy all the glamor and excitement on the red carpet, AS LONG AS I allow enough time to rest and recharge. Having quiet, solitary time every day is extremely important to me. However, on this trip, because of the tight schedule and because I brought my entire family with me, I ended up not having quiet time for myself. Sleep deprivation and low blood sugar made everything worse! Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and I’m so happy that they could share this amazing experience with me. However, if I could do it again, I would’ve built in pockets of quiet time, just for me, every single day. That’s why after returning home, I intentionally unplugged from emails and Internet for a few days, so that I could rest, recharge and process all the exciting experiences from this trip.

Hopefully you’ve learned a valuable lesson from my story too. Here are a few tips for you this holiday season and beyond:

  • If you are a shy, sensitive introvert, you need to be mindful of your activities and energy level. To avoid sensory overload, plan your day and activities carefully. Try not to schedule too many activities that are taxing for you physically, mentally or emotionally.
  • Build in enough quiet time and rest every day, so you can recharge and stay centered. Practice meditation, spend time in nature, or simply sit quietly. Let yourself sleep in or take a nap when you need it.
  • Use stress relief techniques and tools such as deep breathing, yoga, and visualization. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are an excellent tool for stress relief, managing energy level and emotional healing. Just make sure you are using the therapeutic-grade essential oils so you don’t end up burdening your body with allergens and chemical toxins.
  • Practice Intensive Self-Care and self-compassion. Ask yourself: “What’s the most loving thing I can do for me right now?”
  • Set good boundaries on what kind of people you interact with. Try to surround yourself with positive people and limit your time with people who drain your energy.
  • Know that what other people think of you, how they feel or act are NOT your business. You can only control your own thoughts, emotions and actions.
  • Give yourself permission to say NO. You don’t have to accept every single invitation to holiday gatherings.
  • Focus on what really matters to YOU and let other stuff slide.

Most important of all, be fully present and ENJOY the holidays!

Proof of Life – Lessons from A Butterfly Miracle

Sometimes, things happen in a way that we totally cannot explain, and we call them miracles. I had one such encounter this morning.

As you may know, I’ve been raising Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies since this summer. You might have read my recent post about the divine synchronisities involving my Monarch butterflies and The Venus Evolution Global Telesummit, titled “What do Butterflies, Little Girl and Construction Truck Have in Common?” It’s quite a fascinating story.

Yesterday afternoon, my last butterfly (a Painted Lady butterfly) died. I found her lying on her side, lifelessly, on the bottom of the butterfly cage, just like all the other butterflies who had died before her. I tried to move her (through the plastic butterfly cage) to see if she would get up, but she didn’t move. This is the last butterfly of the group I have. She has lived past the average life span of a Painted Lady butterfly, as her friends died one by one in the last two weeks, so I knew the inevitable was coming. Still, I felt very sad for her passing. I didn’t have the heart to take her out of the cage right away, so I left her there overnight. Up until 3:30 AM this morning (I was working late), she remained lifeless at the same spot.

This morning I woke up suddenly because I had a dream that she was alive and flying in the cage. I quickly dismissed it, thinking I had the dream because I was missing her. However, when I walked past the cage, guess what, she was STANDING there!! I stared at her in disbelief. I thought I was dreaming!!

It reminds me of an ancient Chinese Taoist philosopher Chuang-Tzu, who was revered as Lao Tzu’s equal. He once woke up from a dream about a butterfly, and pondered whether he was a man dreaming of a butterfly, or, a butterfly having a dream as Chung-Tzu. It’s one of the most famous Taoist stories in Chinese literature.

For a moment, I felt like Chung-Tzu, wondering if I was still in a dream, or if I had entered a parallel universe where the butterfly was alive (you know, like the movie Inception).

I stared at the butterfly for a little longer. Finally, I decided to accept that this is a miracle and just be grateful for it. I carefully took her out of the cage. She had a meal on my palm, while I took a bunch of pictures and videos of her. She is so beautiful! Believe it or not, this was the first time I’ve ever held her (or any Painted Lady butterflies, even though we’ve had quite a few before). Like a mother who plays favoritism, I’ve always felt more connected to and paid more attention to the Monarch butterflies we’ve had. It was until I’ve lost all my Monarch butterflies and a few Painted Lady butterflies that I decided to consciously appreciate and pay more attention to the rest of the Painted Lady I still have.

We hung out for a while, with her resting on my palm, until I felt that she was ready to go back to the cage. When I put my hand inside the cage, she wasn’t in a hurry to leave at first. After a few minutes, she took off and flew toward the sunny window. Her wings sparkling in the sun, she was flying all around in the cage, just like in my dream.

I can’t explain what happened today. It was amazing! While I was admiring her beauty, a message popped into my head and I teared up (the tears is my body’s way of telling me the message is true). The message I received was that the great Buddha sent her back to me, to teach me a lesson that I’m supposed to share with others. I know this sounds weird, but, this wasn’t the first time Buddha did it.

A few months ago, when my first Monarch butterfly Little Buddy got injured and was dying, I said my good-bye and put him on my little altar for Buddha and Kwan Yin, the Goddess of Compassion. Thinking the butterfly was going to die that night, I asked Buddha to take good care of him so he could rest in peace. I said, “He is yours now. Please take good care of him.” To my surprise, Little Buddy woke up the next morning!! I hand-fed him and nursed him back to health. We became very close, and he lived on for another month.

Little Buddy’s lesson was all about second chance. Maybe I’ll tell his story some other time. Today, this Painted Lady butterfly has a different lesson:

Believe in the wisdom and miracles of Life. Even when all hopes seem to be lost, keep your faith. Surrender. Let go. Trust that the Universe always conspires for your highest good, even when it does not appear that way to you. Know in your heart that you are always, in all ways, divinely guided and protected. You are safe. ALL IS WELL.

I was going to write a different article for my e-zine today, but, my intuition is nudging me to share this message instead. Perhaps someone out there really needs this today. If it resonates with you, will you please pass it on? Namaste.

Best-selling author, inspirational keynote speaker, star of “The Keeper of the Keys” self-help film Hueina Su keynotes on stress management revealing surprising causes of stress and how to overcome them for inner peace, life balance and happiness.

America’s Mindful Wellness Coach, best-selling author, star of the upcoming personal development movie “The Keeper of the Keys” Hueina Su keynotes on stress management revealing surprising inner sources of stress “invisible chaos” at an International Healthcare Conference.

Hueina Su, MS, BSN, CEC, is a mindful wellness expert, international keynote speaker, transformational leader of The Venus Evolution, and the best-selling author of “Intensive Care for the Nurturer’s Soul: 7 Keys to Nurture Yourself While Caring for Others” and the upcoming “Peaceful Power: A Prescription for Long-Lasting Inner Peace, True Happiness and Unstoppable Success.”

In her keynote address, Su reveals eight surprising causes of stress that most people, even doctors, are not aware of or don’t talk about. “The Keeper of the Keys” movie has already made an impression on Stephen Simon, cofounder of Spiritual Cinema Circle. After screening a rough cut, Simon, an acclaimed film producer and director, said, “This movie is so current …so relevant … and nothing like it has ever been done before. It represents an extraordinary undertaking that works on every level.” Simon is licensing “The Keeper of the Keys” movie for April 2012 release for Spiritual Cinema Circle.

“The Keeper of the Keys” movie is set to debut at a red carpet world premiere in Las Vegas on December 8, 2011. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit www.TheKEEPERoftheKEYS.com.

I can’t believe the 2-week summit is coming to an end so soon! Time flies when we are having fun and we really ROCKED it!! :) What started out as a small still voice, a divine message I heard – “Help the little girl” – blossomed into this amazing transformational event for heart-centered, high-achieving V.E.N.U.S. women around the world. I’m so glad I listened to that voice and followed my heart — despite my doubts and fears. I couldn’t have done it without my AMAZING speakers who I have the honor to call my friends, colleagues, soul sisters (and brothers).

Divine synchronisities abound before and during The Venus Evolution Global Telesummit and I’d like to share some of them with you. If you are connected with me on Facebook, you might know that I’ve been fascinated by butterflies, particularly Monarch, and I’ve raised a few at home, and bought 3 more chrysalises in October. Well, during the week of 10/10 (“perfect ten” has special meaning in Chinese culture… “everything is beautiful, perfect and complete”), I was scheduled to interview Maryam Webster, Lisa Walker and Ken Stone for the Telesummit. Three days IN A ROW, at the EXACT time I was supposed to call for the interview, one Monarch butterfly hatched from its chrysalis. I shared this with Maryam, Lisa and Ken when I called, and we were all amazed by this beautiful gift from the Divine. This Telesummit is about women’s transformation and empowerment. What better symbol is there than the beautiful and powerful Monarch butterflies?

Another one of my favorite divine synchronisities during the summit is when Christine Kloser and I were on the call, talking about a huge business decision she just made that required full surrender to grace, and, a construction truck drove by her window, with HUGE letters painted on the side that read “In God We Trust.” I just love INSTANT divine messages like that, don’t you? :)

What a ride this has been!! Woo-Hoo!! I’m so glad you’re on this journey with me!! And if not, what are you waiting for?!! Sign up now before it’s too late!! Register F*REE ~> www.TheVenusEvolution.com

V.E.N.U.S. women are on the rise. I’d like to think that all the speakers and I have helped in some way through this telesummit. It’s a labor of LOVE we have created together. I hope it has been as joyful and meaningful to you, as it is for me.

Remember to tune in to that small still voice, and follow your heart!
