What would you give to your mom this Mother’s Day? Flowers are always appreciated… although they only last a few days. Chocolate is awesome… although it could add to her waistline (not so awesome). A piece of beautiful jewelry or trinket? Also wonderful, but may or may not have much meaning, let alone any long-lasting benefits for mom.
What could you give to your mom, the woman who gave LIFE to you, took care of you around the clock when you were little (all those late-night feedings, fevers, throw-ups), sacrificed SO much for you over the years, and STILL trying to take care of you & guide you long after you’re all grown up?
When I pondered on this, there are probably very few (material) gifts that are truly worthy of our own mom, when we think about how much she has done for us and how much she means to us.
Then I thought about what I wish for my mom…
I wish she could learn how to take better care of herself and NOT feel guilty about it. I wish she knew how worthy of love she is, just by being herself — without having to do anything for anyone in order to prove her worth or win other people’s love & approval. I wish she could love herself unconditionally, instead of trying to get that love from someone else.
I have a gut feeling that you might have some of these same wishes for your mom, or for YOURSELF, or maybe for your own daughter or granddaughter…
Am I right?
